The Knicks seized a 3-1 NBA Finals lead over the Spurs in Game 4, fueling talk of San Antonio's collapse, De’Aaron Fox's miscues and OG Anunoby's legend growing at the Garden. While the Finals drama unfolds, rumors are swirling ahead of the NBA Draft and free agency.
Here's what I've been tracking this week via the Stein Line.
Will Giannis be traded before Draft night?Recent reports indicate that Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to stay in the East, with Miami as his top choice and Boston also in the mix. The Bucks are expected to trade him and are vetting suitors to maximize their return — ideally draft picks and players. Milwaukee hopes to add a first-rounder to its No. 10 pick and may involve Portland in a multi-team deal to recoup assets lost in the Lillard trade. Some think the Bucks could wait until after the Finals if the Knicks lose their series lead and re-enter talks.
Fantasy take: Giannis is the top available player in the fantasy market, so his landing spot is critical — not only for his own production but also for the value of his future teammates. A move to Miami or Boston puts him in a more structured offense with less direct on-ball burden than Milwaukee gave him. The production will still be elite, but there could be a dip in usage-driven stats like points and assists. He has only one guaranteed year remaining on his deal before a 2027-28 player option, so wherever he lands, I'd anticipate a commitment and extension beyond this upcoming season.
LeBron James: The free agency wildcardIs LeBron James willing to take a paycut? If so, how much? That's what teams are itching to know. It's rumored that LeBron wants to stay with the Lakers, but Golden State's interest persists, including a "commuter" arrangement floated to keep him in L.A. while joining Curry and Butler with the Warriors. A return to Cleveland hasn't been ruled out entirely but seems less likely than James staying in the West Coast.
Fantasy take: LeBron is still a top-35 player across formats. At this point in his career, he's played just about every role asked or expected of him — and at a high level. It doesn't really matter where he plays because he's going to provide at least some combination of 20-6-7. I won't likely draft him at ADP because of his age, but fully expect him to be a reliable fantasy asset as he enters his 24th NBA season.
Chet Holmgren isn't going anywhereDespite a tough Western Conference Finals (10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks per game, including just 4 points, 4 boards and 4 stocks in Game 7), OKC has no interest in trading Chet Holmgren. Sam Presti values Holmgren's defensive presence and floor spacing too highly to consider moving him. The bigger question for the Thunder is how they'll manage the rest of the roster: team options for Isaiah Hartenstein, Lu Dort and Kendrich Williams, plus potential trades involving Isaiah Joe or Aaron Wiggins, could help them avoid the second apron. With lucrative extensions for OKC's big three (including Holmgren) set to kick in, expect plenty of movement among the team's role players.

Fantasy take: This is stability and I appreciate the front office backing their guy. Holmgren's All-Defensive First Team selection and DPOY runner-up finish continue to prove how impactful he is on the defensive end. And I'd argue he can tap into a more expansive role offensively. As I said in OKC's exit interview, Holmgren is a good selection near the third round of 9-cat leagues, with a round or two drop-off in points formats.
Hornets' trade buzzThe Charlotte Hornets have shown interest in acquiring Domantas Sabonis but want to keep their first-rounders (No. 14 or 18) out of any framework, which Sacramento would want included. Charlotte could include someone like Miles Bridges, who is on a $22.8M expiring contract.
Fantasy take: Sabonis remains a volatile fantasy asset. When healthy, he's elite across points, boards and assists, but a torn meniscus limited him to 19 games in 2025-26 before undergoing season-ending surgery. I'm not sure I see the fit from a fantasy perspective because he's not exactly a push-the-pace, floor-extending big who matches up with their youthful firing-squad unit. He's the exact opposite — a half-court hub who occupies a ton of usage.
The Hornets need help on the glass and could use a high-IQ, playmaking big like Sabonis, but I fear it'll eat into the offensive production of Ball, Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel. On the flip side, if Bridges were sent to Sacramento, it'd be pretty on-brand as they've been good at acquiring veteran chuckers.
