It’s too early to call this the “Dunk of the Series,” right?
Either way, Victor Wembanyama will have an incredible still shot of a dunk he threw down between two-time league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren.
Wembanyama, in the second quarter of the San Antonio Spurs’ Game 1 matchup with the Thunder on Monday night at the Paycom Center, caught a lob in the middle of the lane. While barely even leaving the ground, Wembanyama managed to grab it, move it to his left and throw down the one-handed dunk between Gilgeous-Alexander and Holmgren with ease. Just watch:

The slow-motion angle from underneath the rim, which included Wembanyama’s celebration, was even better.

But the photo that Getty Images’ Zach Beeker took from under the rim may have been the best part.

Wembanyama entered the locker room at halftime with a double-double already secured. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first 24 minutes and shot 6-of-11 from the field.
The Spurs carried a 51-44 lead into the break after holding Oklahoma CIty to just 17 points in the second quarter. That marked the Thunder’s lowest-scoring half of the playoffs so far. They shot just 37% from the field, which was also their worst shooting percentage in a half in the postseason.
That dunk won’t be the only one that Wembanyama claims this series. He threw down a similar poster through Jalen Williams later in the quarter that was just as dominant.
Regardless of how the series turns out, Wembanyama clearly came to play.
