Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is available to play Thursday night against the Chicago Bulls, the team announced shortly before tip-off.
James, 41, had missed the Lakers' last three games due to a right hip contusion and left foot arthritis. In the fourth quarter of last Thursday's game against the Denver Nuggets, James took a hard fall and landed on his left elbow. ESPN's Dave McMenamin later reported that head coach JJ Redick said James "was icing his left elbow after the game and that he was experiencing enough discomfort that it caused him to be unable to finish the game."
He was unavailable the next two games with elbow discomfort but ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Knicks, it was reported by ESPN's Malika Andrews that James was also dealing with arthritis in his left foot that was the main cause of his discomfort. He's been on a day-to-day basis ever since, listed as a game-time decision for the Lakers' games against the Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves, both of which were blowout wins for L.A. without James.
James has had to battle through a few different injuries throughout his 23rd NBA season. His season debut was delayed until Nov. 18 due to sciatica, and his streak of 21 straight All-NBA selections officially ended in February after he missed his 18th game of the season, making him ineligible for NBA awards under the league's 65 games played requirement.
And while the Lakers have struggled to find consistency for most of the season, they enter Thursday having won six of their last seven games.
