He didn’t quite get to 100, but Bam Adebayo just did the best Wilt Chamberlain impression the NBA has ever seen.
In the Miami Heat’s 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, Adebayo racked up 83 points on 20/43 shooting (7-22 on 3s and 36/43 on free throws), marking the second-most points ever scored in a single NBA game. He passed Kobe Bryant’s mark of 81 that was previously the second-most ever scored, trailing only Chamberlain’s 100 set in 1962.
So yeah, Wilt Chamberlain, Bam Adebayo, and Kobe Bryant. The three greatest single-game scorers in NBA history.
The former Kentucky Wildcats standout broke the NBA record for free throws attempted and made. He also broke Klay Thompson’s record for most points through three quarters in NBA history.
Adebayo was already having the kind of career that would put him in contention for a spot in the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame someday. I’d say this performance will be a major part of making that become reality.
