Actress Diane Keaton dead at 79

American actress Diane Keaton has died at the age of 79, a family spokesperson confirmed to People magazine.

She passed away in California but the cause of death has not been made public, and her family has asked for privacy, according to the magazine.

Keaton was best known for her roles in ‘Father of the Bride’, ‘The First Wives Club’ and her Oscar-winning performance in ‘Annie Hall’. She also appeared in ‘The Godfather’ trilogy as Kay Adams.

Born Diane Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, she adopted her mother’s maiden name, Keaton, for her professional identity. She rose to prominence in the 1970s, frequently collaborating with Woody Allen.

Keaton remained unmarried yet had well-known relationships, including with Allen, Al Pacino, and Warren Beatty.

Her career spanned more than five decades and included roles in comedies, dramas and ensemble films. In 2024, she starred in Summer Camp, which marked her last film appearance before her death.

Keaton is survived by two adopted children, a daughter Dexter and son Duke, whom she adopted in midlife.
