Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier will appear in a New York court on Monday afternoon for arraignment on federal wire fraud and money laundering charges. 

Rozier last appeared before a federal judge on Oct. 23 in Orlando, Florida, when prosecutors initially announced the indictment. He is alleged to have helped gamblers who placed bets on his performance in NBA games. 

Prosecutors allege that Rozier conspired with bettors and friends to help them wager on his performance in multiple games. One such occurrence happened in March of 2023 when Rozier was playing for the Charlotte Hornets. In this game, Rozier allegedly gave bettors the heads up that he intended to leave early due to an injury. 

Against the Pelicans on Mar. 23, 2023, Rozier started the game and played roughly nine and a half minutes before leaving with a supposed foot injury. Rozier did not play in another game that season.

The 31-year-old veteran guard is one of three current or former NBA players caught up in this gambling ring, along with over 30 others who’ve also been arrested in connection with the case, which includes several Mafia crime family members.

Hall of Famer and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was involved and charged for his alleged participation in a scheme to fix high-stakes, illegal poker games that the Mafia backed. Billups was placed on unpaid leave by the NBA following his arrest, and recently put his home in the Portland area up for sale. 

Damon Jones, a former NBA player and assistant coach, was also charged in the illegal poker scheme as well as another in which he is alleged to have assisted gamblers in winning bets on NBA games that also implicated Rozier.

Both Rozier and Billups are currently on unpaid leave from their respective organizations while the court cases are in progress.
